Resource Highlight: NCPWB’s Radiograph Interpretation Technical Resource

May 25, 2024

Welding professionals need to understand the types of defects found in weldments and how they appear in a radiograph to ensure the projects they deliver will not fail. NCPWB’s Radiograph Interpretation Technical Resource provides both written and visual examples of discontinuities to simplify the process. It’s just one of MCAA’s educational resources that are free to MCAA members as a benefit of membership.

The technical resource covers the following discontinuities:

  • General welding discontinuities
  • TIG Welding discontinuities
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) discontinuities

You may also be interested in NCPWB Technical Bulletin: An Explanation of ASME Section IX Requirements Radiographic Examination for Welds, which explains how to determine the number of test coupons required to meet the minimum weld length for radiographic examination under ASME Section IX.

Find the full range of welding-related resources in the NCPWB Resource Center, where you can use the blue “Find A Resource” bar to pinpoint exactly what you’re looking for.
