MSCA has been honoring our industry’s very own everyday heroes for the past five years at the annual education conference. This year, we were certain that every contractor operating in today’s environment has employees that have gone above and beyond to satisfy customer requests, assist in community efforts or unselfishly support their company. Our expectations were blown away by just how many heroes we have within our industry. This year we received nineteen nominations! There are so many peers among us who do extraordinary things every day, simply out of the kindness of their hearts with a passion to make a difference for the better.

Over 450 attendees tuned in this week for MSCA’s Sales Reboot virtual program, Strategies for Navigating Change and Elevating Performance in the New Economy. Presenter Seth Mattison, internationally renowned author and expert on workforce trends and business performance, helped attendees understand how to better prepare for a world they will not recognize.

The GreatFutures Virtual Fall Program has completed the sixth week with two presentations on safety and project risks. Next week, we will learn about Building Information Modeling (BIM) and why more and more mechanical contractors are utilizing the process. As the very public debate in Congress regarding another stimulus bill rolls on, Withum wanted to share an update issued late last week by the SBA, in conjunction with the Department of Treasury. With lobbying groups, lenders, and borrowers long-since advocating for a more simple forgiveness process, specifically for smaller loans, the SBA took this into their own hands late last week, as they released a new interim final rule (“IFR”).

CMS Announces New Repayment Terms for Medicare Accelerated and Advance Payment Program Loans

The Alston & Bird Health Care Group details how changes by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to the AAP loan program delays repayment obligations for all health care providers and suppliers that received AAP loans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CDC recently reported that airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 can occur in rare cases under just the right circumstances. In most cases, the virus is transmitted from one person to another in droplet form, and occurs when affected individuals are less than six feet away from the source for 15 minutes or more. However, new research indicates that when exposure occurs in enclosed spaces, exposure time is greater than 30 minutes, and some kind of expiratory exertion is taking place, such as shouting, singing, or exercising, the virus can be transmitted in aerosol form (smaller particles suspended in air).

Sales Basecamp is where it begins for entry-level service sales personnel in the HVACR and plumbing industry. This interactive, three week virtual program will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at 2 PM EDT, starting November 3 – 19, 2020.

By using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe rather than carbon steel and pairing it with Victaulic’s HDPE pipe joining system, Shoemaker Mechanical replaced a cooling tower in less time than planned, with fewer people than expected, and avoided potential weather delays. “Negligent entrustment” can stem from employees driving company-owned vehicles, their personal vehicles, or other vehicles on company business. Employers have a responsibility to know if an employee has something in his or her driving background that creates a risk to others. Negligent entrustment implies a company knew or should have known that it put an unsafe driver behind the wheel of a vehicle and allowed that employee to drive on behalf of the company. Guy’s Mechanical Systems discovered that the Viega MegaPress Press-In Branch Connector saved them time by reducing the steps for installation in the process of remodeling a 20-story high-rise in downtown Pittsburgh. Renovating the aged building—constructed in 1902—into a hotel has been a complicated process, and Foreman Josh Mitchell said MegaPress has made it simpler. Viega is an MCAA benefactor sponsor.

MCAA partner Littler shares information on the U.S. Department of Treasury’s recent guidance for employers with respect to the deferral of the employee portion of certain payroll taxes.

On August 31, 2020, OSHA published a final rule revising the beryllium standard for the construction industry. Although it is exceedingly rare for the agency’s beryllium standard to affect mechanical construction employers, if there are operations on any of your jobsites where your workers could be exposed to airborne concentrations of beryllium, you will be required to comply with the standard.

MCAA believes that ergonomics should be a standard part of every company’s overall safety program. Recently MCAA partnered with The Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), Washington University in St. Louis, and Best Built Plans to develop and record a webinar on Creating a Contractor Ergonomics Program to Reduce Soft Tissue Injuries Among Construction Workers.

Medical Screenings During COVID-19

The Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) reports more than 80,000 Americans have failed to get their proper medical screenings during this time. As a result, CTCA is seeing more late stage cancer diagnosis. Making for harder treatment protocols and potentially worse outcomes.

With the recent increase in violence in America, now is a good time to revisit MCAA’s award winning video on workplace violence prevention and protection. The principles of situational awareness presented in the video apply absolutely everywhere, regardless of whether you’re in the workplace or elsewhere.

During the height of the COVID-19 crisis in New York City in April, MCAA member Donnelly Mechanical was an integral part of converting two facilities within Queens and Brooklyn into temporary field hospitals. These hospitals were staffed with doctors and nurses from around the country who traveled to New York to help treat COVID-19 patients and to relieve the burden from the nearby, overtaxed hospitals.

The PCA announced the opening of a new Virtual Education Series today that goes beyond the typical Zoom meeting that we have become accustomed to. The seven-episode series begins September, 23 at 1 PM EDT and will feature an in-depth look at JPG Plumbing & Mechanical Services, a member contractor based in Jessup, MD.

The UA is offering a free program for all MSCA/MCAA contractors and UA members on Safe Handling of Mildly Flammable Refrigerants. The webinar will take place on August 26, 2020 from 2 PM – 4 PM EST.

Honeywell has issued an Immediate Stop USE Notice for certain models of Miller MightEvac and MightyLite self-retracting lifelines (SRLs) manufactured within a specific time frame. The notice only affects specifically listed models, with identified manufacturing dates or re-certification dates between October 27, 2016 and October 6, 2018. Models outside of this date range, including new units, are not affected by this notice.

ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force Releases Updated Building Readiness Guide

As many buildings are preparing to reopen during this pandemic, the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force has updated its reopening “Building Readiness” guidance for HVAC systems to help mitigate the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Specific updated recommendations to the building readiness guidance include the following: Pre- and Post- Flushing Strategy, Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) Systems Operation, and Building Readiness Modes of Operation for the Building.

For example, Sloan recently dispatched one of its Mobile Restrooms to assist when a Denver, Colorado-based Catholic Charities chapter lost access to the restroom and handwashing facilities it relied on to serve the area’s homeless population.

After a career spent overseeing the transformation of an industry, Jon Danuser retired from MCAA member Johnson Controls in June 2020. During his career, Jon was an active member of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Eastern Missouri (MCA-EMO), where he served in various leadership positions including board president. As Jon embarks on this new chapter in his life, he said, “What I am going to miss the most is all of the people I have had the privilege to work with and the customers we served over the years.”

MCAA’s recently revised Guide to Steel and Copper Piping System Pressure Testing Safety includes information on pressure testing hazards, associated injuries, primary causes of pressure testing failures, general pressure testing safety, safe work practices for hydrostatic testing, and safe work practices for pneumatic testing.

Recent research indicates that individuals with mild to moderate cases of COVID-19 remain infectious no longer than 10 days after symptoms began; and individuals with severe illness or those who are severely immunocompromised remain infectious no longer than 20 days after symptoms began. Based on these findings, the CDC has made changes to their guidelines regarding discontinuing COVID-19 isolation and precautions for non-healthcare settings.

Joint Response to Critique of Groom Law Group’s Paper on Composite Plans

In a joint letter to the Congress, the national labor/management coalition responded to the Western Council of Teamsters rebuttal of the Groom Law Group paper of Composite Plans. This July 31, 2020 version of the letter contains update analysis of the 5500 filings of the median critical and declining status plans.

The GreatFutures education program will navigate students through the competition project with online instructional sessions focused on components of a real-world contracting bid. This summer, MCA of Chicago has two interns, Judie Prophete and Ervin Prophete. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning everyone about hand sanitizers made with methanol. The substance, which is a form of alcohol, is toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested. Last month the FDA listed a number of hand sanitizers made by Eskbiochem that contain methanol. This month the agency is expanding that list to include sanitizers made by other companies.

National Service and Maintenance Agreement Extended One Year

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Mechanical Service Contractors of America and the United Association have jointly agreed to extend the termination date of the current National Service and Maintenance Agreement, dated August 1 2015 – July 31, 2020, until July 31, 2021. All current signers remain bound to the terms of the Agreement.

MCAA is saddened by the loss of Robert T. Armistead, P.E., who served as our President in 2010. He died peacefully at his home on June 16, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Our thoughts are with Susan, Robert, Kane, Bryan and the extended Armistead family during this difficult time. “Bob truly loved the MCAA and his time with everyone involved in the organization. He will be greatly missed,” said Timothy J. Brink, MCAA’s Chief Executive Officer.

This reality requires us to carefully monitor the new information and make updates to MCAA’s Model COVID-19 Return to Work Exposure Control Plan as necessary. MCAA’s model plan was recently updated. 2020 has brought about more changes so far than anyone could have reasonably imagined! OSHA recently revised its plan for enforcing safe workplace requirements concerning COVID-19. The memorandum the agency sent to its regional administrators provides instructions and guidance for handling COVID-19-related complaints, referrals, and severe illness reports. The previous COVID-19 enforcement guidance document sent to the regional administrators back in April has been rescinded.

OSHA recently sent revised enforcement guidance to it’s regional administrators regarding affected employers’ obligation to record and report work-related cases of COVID-19. The memorandum makes it clear that employers must make a good faith effort to determine whether a case of COVID-19 is work-related, and if so, record and report the illnesses if the other required recording/recording criteria also applies.

Below are two recently issued Frequently Asked Questions published by the Small Business Administration and Treasury Department on eligibility for Paycheck Protection Program loans for public and privately owned companies and eligibility for firms that have access to other adequate sources of liquidity. The after-the-fact guidance issued on April 24 and April 28 is causing some degree of confusion among firms that have already applied for and been granted PPP loans before publication of this criteria.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released enforcement guidance for recording cases of COVID-19. Until further notice, OSHA will not enforce its record-keeping requirements to require employers to make work-relatedness determinations for COVID-19 cases, except where: (1) There is objective evidence that a COVID-19 case may be work-related; and (2) The evidence was reasonably available to the employer.

Watts Water Technologies Products Support COVID-19 Response Efforts

AERCO (a WATTS Brand) B+II WaterWizard steam water heaters will provide much-needed safe, reliable hot water to patients and medical staff aboard the military hospital ship USNS Comfort which arrived in New York last week in support of the nation’s COVID-19 response efforts. Borrowers and lenders may rely on the guidance provided in this document as SBA’s interpretation of the CARES Act and of the Paycheck Protection Program Interim Final Rule (“PPP Interim Final Rule”). Updated FAQs: Employers Regulated by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act

On April 1, 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issued temporary regulations implementing the paid leave requirements under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). The DOL has also been adding new guidance to its more informal Questions & Answers webpage. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently released guidance to its regional administrators outlining enforcement discretion to permit the use of filtering facepiece respirators and air-purifying elastomeric respirators that are certified under certain standards of other countries or jurisdictions. The guidelines also address enforcement discretion to permit use when the equipment was previously certified under the standards of other countries or jurisdictions, but are beyond their manufacturer’s recommended shelf life.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently released guidelines to help combat supply shortages of disposable N95 filtering face piece respirators. The agency’s guidelines address alternatives to N95s, and extended use and reuse of the respirators. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), which is the research arm of OSHA, also released N95 guidelines addressing extended use and reuse of the respirators, specifically for healthcare settings.  

Molly Sizemore, a junior at Pennsylvania State University, has been awarded one of the two Ferguson – Women in the Mechanical Industry Scholarships. Ferguson underwrites these scholarships, which recognize high-achieving female students working towards a degree relative to the mechanical industry. Molly is the President of the MCA of Central Pennsylvania-sponsored student chapter at Pennsylvania State University, where she studies Architectural Engineering specializing in mechanical systems. Ali has been a member of the MCA Omaha Student Chapter since 2017. She is earning her degree in Business Administration & Human Resources. MCAA developed a best practices guidance document to help protect mechanical construction and service workers from COVID-19 exposure. MCAA and the United Association partnered with several industry experts to gather all facts and proper procedures concerning this virus. Because MCAA members are using the safety talk for worker training, MCAA developed a 20-question multiple choice test and accompanying answer key to help members document that the training occurred, and that trainees understand the training content.

FFCRA Employer Paid Leave Requirements Digest

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. The Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division administers and enforces the new law’s paid leave requirements. These provisions are effective on April 1, 2020, and apply to leave taken through December 31, 2020.

A contracted estimator fell from an extension ladder when a cracked rung broke while he was climbing the ladder. The estimator was seriously injured, sustaining a skull fracture and multiple leg fractures. The estimator had been aware of the defect in the ladder. The defect was caused when the ladder fell at an earlier job site. However, the estimator continued to use the ladder rather than seeking a replacement. These ladder safety tips from CNA will help you keep workers safe.

Cohen Seglias’ Construction Contracts & Risk Management Group prepared sample notice letters for use on jobs where contractors and subcontractors are still ordered to work either in violation of shutdown orders or under unsafe work conditions that are contrary to the CDC guidelines. Also, with many companies still bidding and entering into contracts for new work, Cohen Seglias is providing sample force majeure language that covers pandemics such as this as an unforeseen event entitling you to an extension of time and an increase in price caused by any resultant delays.

The DOL Wage and Hour Division has updated their COVID-19 webpage to include Field Assistance Bulletin 2020-1, announcing a temporary non-enforcement period. Separately, the Wage and Hour Division have released the posters that employers are required to display outlining the rights of federal employees and non-federal employees under the FFCRA.

Joint Letter Regarding HVAC Techs as Essential Employees

Earlier this week a joint coalition of HVAC associations sent a letter to local, state and federal officials urging them to consider HVACR technicians and engineers as essential businesses and not restrict their travel. These employees are essential to maintain HVAC and commercial refrigeration equipment. Aside from providing comfort, this equipment is vital for health and safety in addition to productivity, particularly for air filtration and food and medical supply preservation, especially in this time of quarantine. When equipment fails, technicians must be able to repair or replace it as quickly as possible.

Department of Homeland Security Identification of Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers During COVID-19 Response

The Department of Homeland Security released a COVID-19 response for essential critical infrastructure workers today. The response included an initial list of “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers” to help State and local officials as they work to protect their communities, while ensuring continuity of functions critical to public health and safety, as well as economic and national security.

Colin Hindman has accepted a second summer internship with MCA of Indiana member, Harrell-Fish, Inc. Colin is a junior studying Construction Management Technology at Purdue University where he is the President of the MCAA Student Chapter. CEA “Construction as Essential” Letter

The Construction Employers of America (CEA) have released a joint letter urging the federal government to expand essential services to critical construction job sites and projects.

This year’s MCAA Educator of the Year Award was presented to Cristina Cosma of the Wentworth Institute of Technology. The award, including a check, honors her mentoring ability, industry knowledge and involvement, and her active participation in MCAA’s Student Chapter program activities. The students of the Wentworth MCAA Student Chapter sponsored by the New England MCA, Inc. said, “a mentor’s role is to provide guidance, advice, encouragement, support, and resources. Congratulations to Hailey Brennan, the first recipient of the annual Josam Endowed Scholarship. Josam Company has established an annual scholarship to a sophomore in a MCAA Student Chapter, pursuing a degree in construction management, mechanical engineering or a similar field. Provided that all qualifications are met each year, the yearly recipient will continue to receive the scholarship in their sophomore, junior and senior year. Hailey is a sophomore, studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. Hailey joined her MCAA student chapter last fall and has since attended the 2019 GreatFutures Forum and helped lead her chapter to the final four of this year’s MCAA Student Chapter Competition.

Letter of Opposition Waiving HVACR Inspections

On behalf of America’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) industry, we strongly oppose decisions by municipalities that have indicated suspension of HVACR installation inspections during the spread of the Coronavirus.

The new digital workflow saves LAARS significant time with each service visit, significantly reducing operating costs.

Letsos Company and CFI Mechanical, both of Houston, TX, used Uponor PEX for two high school plumbing projects to save money for the school district while also realizing faster installation and cost savings over traditional approaches. CFI Mechanical estimated a 30-percent savings in cost and labor resulting from using smaller PEX piping (1″ and below).

As frost signified the beginning of a new season in Boston last week, we celebrated a new class of graduates from the MCAA’s Advanced Leadership Institute (ALI), bringing the total number of ALI graduates to 599. Industry leaders from both the construction and service sectors came together this fall to engage in two intensive weeks of study, covering topics like conflict resolution, strategic decision-making, personal leadership style, finance, leading organizational change, effective communication, and a whole lot more. Distracted driving poses significant risk to every business that has employees who drive both company-owned and personal vehicles for company business. Common activities that divert attention from the road include texting, most mobile phone use, eating and drinking, reaching for an object, talking with a passenger, and reading navigation systems. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), for the second consecutive year, more than 40,000 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2017. According to a 2017 NSC public opinion poll, 74 percent rated distracted drivers as a major concern for traffic safety. Use this guide from CNA to assist in developing and supporting a program that helps in the control of driver behaviors, based on statistics about the impact of cell phone use and driver distractions, such as talking and texting.

Victaulic’s building information modeling (BIM) expertise saved Kruse Corporation an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 on the renovation of Union Station in Wichita, KS, while the streamlined construction approach reduced build hours from 4,000 to 3,100, yielding an additional $40,000 in labor savings. The combination of BIM services and Victaulic products simplified coordination, reduced risks during construction, and cut the manpower needed for this project in half.

UA-MCAA Labor Relations Conference Convenes in Las Vegas

The 2019 UA-MCAA Labor Relations Conference: Succeeding Together will convene October 29 – 30, 2019, at The Mirage in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1995, Mercedes Ramirez Johnson narrowly survived a commercial airplane crash that killed 160 people, including her parents. It’s not every day you get the chance to give someone a gift that changes their lives. A group of 12 employees from MSCA member company, Arista Air Conditioning Corporation, did just that when they traveled to Puerto Rico with Convoy of Hope to build a new house and repair other homes that were damaged in Hurricane Maria.

Ferguson and DEWALT Show Their Support for the WiMI Initiative

Ferguson and DEWALT showed their support for MCAA’s Women in the Mechanical Industry Initiative during MCAA19. Ferguson underwrote two $5,000 Ferguson – Women in the Mechanical Industry Scholarships that recognized high-achieving female students working towards degrees related to our industry. DEWALT collected more than 1,500 signatures in support of the WiMI Initiative and donated $7,500 to WiMI’s efforts.

MSCA headed to Vegas March 3-5, 2019 for the National HVACR Educators and Trainers Conference. This conference hosted hundreds of individuals involved in training the HVACR workforce.

Women Leaders Shape the Future of Women in the Mechanical Industry

Twenty-five of MCAA/MSCA’s top women leaders and manufacturer-supplier executives met this week in Arizona to shape the future of Women in the Mechanical Industry. Excitement was evident throughout the event as the attendees shared challenges and inspiring stories of success and accomplishments in their own businesses. Through brainstorming and strategic sessions, the attendees discussed an array of programming options to help women in the industry advance their careers, network, share resources and mentor young women entering the industry. Attendees left the event with a renewed sense of community and a new network of peers. Stay tuned for additional information about WiMI events and programs for the coming year.

MCAA Kicked Off Targeted Programming for Women Professionals at MCAA18

Our association’s leading women kicked off our Women in the Mechanical Industry forum with a networking reception. During the event, women learned how the forum will further enrich their careers through networking, educational, mentoring and career development opportunities beyond those already offered through membership in MCAA and MSCA. Women in the Mechanical Industry also sponsored a special session on two proven career advancement strategies measured to have the strongest payoff for women professionals.

MCAA’s recently revised injury and illness recordkeeping guide is now available to MCAA and MSCA members for free as a benefit of membership. Several recent changes to OSHA’s recordkeeping regulation prompted the revisions, which include new work-related injury illness reporting requirements, electronic submission of injury and illness records, deadlines for reporting, etc.

MSCA member company Arista Air Conditioning Corp, of Long Island City, NY, partnered with Convoy of Hope to help communities and people in need worldwide. Volunteering a total of 244 hours of work, Arista’s employees put their skills and passion towards a great cause.

The HVAC winner of this year’s UA Apprenticeship Contest, Ryan D. England, District 4, Local 137, is from Springfield, IL and employed by AIRmasters, an MSCA member. Robbie Mathews, Founder, Owner and Service Manager of AIRmasters is proud of Ryan’s accomplishment in winning this award but said he is not surprised…

In a high-performance building, system integration is key. A balance between productivity, safety, good health, and energy efficiency is imperative. Failure to maintain one component may prevent the entire system from performing optimally. 

Marjorie Banda, a freshman in Ferris State University’s HVACR program, was the recipient of this year’s MSCA Scholarship in recognition of her scholastic achievement. In a thank you letter to MSCA Executive Director Barbara Dolim, Marjorie noted that, “Supporting females like myself in STEM programs instills confidence in women that indeed the industry does believe that women do have the potential to contribute to the industry.”

Introducing MCAA’s newest safety resource… Model Lockout/Tagout Program for Electrical Safety. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recently revised its standard for electrical safety in the workplace. The most current version of the standard is NFPA 70E – 2018. This version imposes a new requirement concerning lockout/tagout of electrical energy sources. Affected employers must now establish a written lockout/tagout program specifically for electrical safety.

Whenever a new process, tool or technology is introduced to a company, there is always concern about how it will be used by the people in the field every day. At the Indianapolis Field Leaders Conference, UA Director of Training Chris Haslinger made a presentation about construction technology. His presentation included a survey which yielded some very interesting results from the end users directly.

The team from Colorado State University won the final round of the Student Chapter Competition at MCAA18, taking home the first prize and $10,000 for their efforts. Their proposal for the renovation of a New York City steakhouse beat out proposals from the Fairleigh-Dickinson University, the University of Washington and the Wentworth Institute of Technology.

The most current version of the standard, which is on a 3-year revision cycle, is NFPA 70E – 2018. MCAA student chapter members have been challenged to plan a project involving the renovation of the mechanical systems of a Brazilian restaurant in mid-town New York City—Fogo De Chao Steakhouse. The project, which was provided by Arista Air Conditioning Corporation, was announced during MCAA’s GreatFutures Forum in Indianapolis. Members of MCAA’s Career Development Committee will review the teams’ proposals and select the “final four” to present their proposals at the MCAA 2018 convention in San Antonio in March.

We, at MSCA want to extend our heartfelt thoughts, prayers and support to all those affected by Hurricane Harvey including members, MCA affiliated chapters, suppliers, local unions and friends. We hope that all our friends at the Sales Institute, University of Houston, Houston, Texas are safe and sound.

MSCA recently released an electronic version of its newly revised Safety Manual for Mechanical Service Technicians. It is now available in print. The manual includes substantive revisions to sections on CPR, choking, OSHA, arc flash and electrical shock protection, and refrigerants, and new sections on hexavalent chromium, manganese, noise and zinc.

The MCAA and the UA have teamed up to provide additional financial relief to 357 field and office employees of our South Texas members who were victimized by Hurricane Harvey. Each employee is receiving a $500 relief check, with half coming from the MCAA Disaster Relief Fund and half from the UA’s Charitable Trust. This is in addition to the $1,000 relief check each employee already received from MCAA’s Disaster Relief Fund. Here’s the reaction of one of CFI Mechanical’s employees: “Chuck, once again I am floored by the generosity of others. Today I received a second check for disaster aide from the MCAA along with the UA Charitable Trust. Together with their members, they raised more to assist flood victims. This will help while waiting for the insurance company to decide what might or might not be covered. I have never been more proud to be a plumber for a union contractor that is so active in MCAA. Thank you again for your generosity!”

Most in the HVAC industry know all about the commissioning process but a new resurgence of retrocommissioning is making a comeback in the HVACR industry. Thom Brazel and Dick Starr, both former MSCA Chairman of the Board of Managers, are featured in a recent article about retrocommissioning in The News.

Egan Company installed the MobileTech solution from KEY2ACT, slashing billing time and eliminating time-consuming paperwork. Chris Yelle, Egan’s service operations manager, estimated that Egan will see its return on investment (ROI) within 18 months of implementing MobileTech, which connects field staff to the back office, providing instant access to the information and enabling both sides to easily manage service calls and appointments.

With their new Jonas Construction Software, Harrell-Fish Inc. (HFI) is now able to turn around billings about five days quicker, improving their cash flow in the process. They have also reduced their payroll processing time from about four hours a month spread out across three employees to about an hour only with Jonas.

MSCA releases a Field Service Software Report to help members evaluate, understand and select service software. The report is the fourth in the MCAA Technology Research Series developed by JBKnowledge.

New HVACR chiller training courses are now being offered by the United Association Training Department in conjunction with Carrier Corporation and Johnson Controls through the 2017 Regional Training System. These courses will be taught by authorized factory instructors, incorporating manufacturer specific curriculum, and have limited availability. Admittance into each course is subject to registration policies by each participating manufacturer.
