North American and Canadian Mechanical Contractors Associations Sign Memorandum of Understanding

The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), confirming the long-standing partnership and collaboration between the two associations.

“We feel extremely fortunate to count MCAA as one of our strongest allies and partners,” said Wayne Davidson, President & Chair of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada. “We share many of the same issues and concerns as MCAA and have always appreciated the opportunity to meet and discuss with our American counterparts on these topics. This MOU solidifies a spirit of cooperation and collaboration between our two organizations.”

“The MCAA is thankful for the many years of partnership with the MCA of Canada,” said Armand Kilijian, Immediate Past President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America. “We appreciate the open dialogue and collective brainpower as we discuss shared challenges to advance the mechanical industry together.”

In addition to the promotion of the mechanical contracting sector, the MOU also sets out guidelines on the sharing of educational resources, industry best practices, as well as attendance at MCAA and MCAC events.

MCAA and MCAC will continue their involvement in the International Alliance of Mechanical Contractor Associations (IAMCA), an international group which meets annually to discuss common issues of concern for mechanical contractors in North America, Great Britain, and Australia.

TAUC Union Craft Labor Supply Report Shows Confidence in Industry Growth

The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC) has released its 2022 Union Craft Labor Supply Report. The industry’s only union-specific report focused on construction and maintenance shows great confidence in the industry’s growth prospects.

This is the eighth year that TAUC has commissioned the Construction Labor Research Council (CLRC) to conduct this comprehensive analysis.

The report, based on a survey of nearly 700 industry respondents, reveals great confidence in the growth prospects for the construction and maintenance industry. In fact, 80% projected growth and a strong 30% projected “Very Strong Growth” for 2022. The improved growth projections were nearly universal across all the demographic data cuts. In other words, nearly every role, region, industry, organization size, and age group were bullish on growth for 2022 (but there were a few exceptions).

Learn About the Next Evolution of Infrastructure from Our Clean Energy: Geothermal Energy Exchange Webinar

Thermal Energy or Clean Energy is the reduction or elimination of carbon dioxide from energy sources. For example, heat pumps are a clean energy source for water heating and comfort cooling and heating. A heat pump water heater captures heat from the surrounding air and transfers it to the water inside the tank. Moving the heat instead of generating heat allows the system to operate more efficiently. This type of work is the everyday work of MCAA contractors.

Installing and servicing heat pumps will lead to significant state and federal financial incentives such as rebates, tax credits, loans, grants, and more. MCAA members are in the unique position to help reduce the carbon footprint of any city or state.

MCAA President Robert M. Bolton will be joined by subject matter expert on geothermal HVACR technologies, Jay Egg. Egg began a career in mechanical design engineering & contracting. As an expert consultant, Jay sits on several technical code committees internationally; notably the technical committee for the IAPMO Uniform Mechanical Code. Jay has co-authored two McGraw-Hill Textbooks focused on geothermal HVAC technologies, and continues to write curriculum and lecture on the merits of Clean Heating and Cooling technologies.
