Resource Highlight: MCAA’s Laser Scanning

December 29, 2023

When called upon to produce plans for older buildings, contractors may need to take measurements for pipes and ductwork that are not easily accessed. MCAA’s Laser Scanning explains how laser scanning may be able to help facilitate this work. It’s just one of MCAA’s educational resources that are free to MCAA members as a benefit of membership.

The bulletin explores:

  • What laser scanning is, and what it isn’t
  • Types of scanners
  • Accuracy
  • Conducting the scan
  • Registration/“stitching”
  • Point clouds
  • Scanning uses
  • Purchase vs. rental considerations
